A for anyone that would like to expand their metalsmithing skills to include handmade chain.

This is a beginning workshop. Basic skills like sawing, filing, and sanding are helpful, but not required.

Our resident metalsmith, Erin Austin, will guide you through

  • Safety and PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Soldering chain
  • Cold Connection chains
  • Incorporating your clasp into the design

Students will leave this workshop with a number of samples and the know how to create handmade chains. We will be working in copper and brass, but all skills will translate to sterling silver. 

All supplies included. 

Students must be 18 years or older. 

To use the studio you must:

  • Sign a Liability Waiver
  • Wear closed toed shoes
  • Wear appropriate eye protection
  • Wear splash goggles when using the soldering area 
    • Note: 1 pair is available in the studio at the soldering station. If you would like your own pair please bring them. 
  • Tie back long hair 
  • Secure loose clothing
  • Follow all posted Studio rules
  • Follow directions from instructor and/or studio monitors

We also highly suggest wearing natural fibers like cotton, hemp, etc. Synthetic fibers contain plastic that may melt onto your skin if they come into contact with heat! 

Refunds: Refunds are available until 1 week before the scheduled class date.

Please note: We do NOT have bathrooms available for customer/student use. Please plan accordingly. Businesses that offer restrooms to customers (you must purchase something to use their restrooms) in the immediate area include: The Speakeasy in the evening and Ramones or Old Town Coffee and Chocolates during the day. The Eureka Visitor Center, near the gazebo, also has day time bathrooms available for your use (no purchase necessary).
