Open Studio Hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturdays from 5-9pm.
The studio seats 6 people. Reservations must be made ahead of time. You will be able to choose studio time in 1 hour increments when you add this item to your cart.
Studio users must be 18 and over and have previous jewelry studio experience in the form of a high school or college course, workshop at Phosphene, or the equivalent.
On your first visit we will provide a quick safety and tool refresher to make sure you are comfortable at the bench and soldering stations. Please allow 10-15min for this in your scheduling. Renters will also be required to sign a liability waiver.
To use the studio you must:
- Have previous jewelry/metalsmithing experience
- Sign a Liability Waiver
- Wear closed toed shoes
- Tie Back Long Hair
- Secure Loose Clothing
- Wear appropriate eye protection
- Wear splash goggles when using the soldering area
- Note: 1 pair is available in the studio at the soldering station. If you would like your own pair please bring them.
- Follow all posted studio rules
- Follow directions from instructor and/or studio monitor
We also highly recommend wearing natural fibers like cotton, hemp, etc. Synthetic fibers contain plastic that may melt onto your skin if they come into contact with heat!
Our bench rentals are on a first-come first-serve basis. Renters need to provide their own metals and consumables materials like saw blades, sand paper, bits, etc. We recommend checking out local and online resources like Talisman, Pierson's, Shaffer's, Otto Frei, Rio Grande, Halstead, or Stuller for these items.
Hand tool kits are available to rent for in-studio use ($5/day).
Students and renters enjoy full access to our well-equipped jewelry studio, featuring 6 benches, 1 acetylene/air soldering station with ventilation, rolling mill, 6" shear, ring bender, buffing equipment, vibratory and rotary tumblers, hydraulic press (coming soon!), and more!
Please note: We do NOT have bathrooms available for customer/student use. Please plan accordingly. Businesses that offer restrooms to customers (you must purchase something to use their restrooms) in the immediate area include: Madrone, and The Speakeasy in the evening and Madrone and Old Town Coffee and Chocolates during the day. The Eureka Visitor Center, near the gazebo, also has day time bathrooms available for your use (no purchase necessary).
